Hrm With Strategic Goals And Objectives Commerce Essay
Hrm With Strategic Goals And Objectives Commerce Essay The most recent accentuation among scholastics and experts on open or individuals the executives frameworks as a source upper hand has concentrated more prominent than at any other time on the science and practice of Human Resource Management. While scholastics have made various critical commitments to these advancement by methods for inquire about, Steve Kerr of General Electric has had a contention that the extraordinary number of the best work is being finished by consultans and experts in the field (Hodgetts, 1996). As a matter of fact, one could put forth a convincing defense that the act of HRM has outpaced the scholastic work on this particullar theme. Be that as it may, information on how associations in actuality oversee individuals to give a wellspring of upper hand are inadequate. Studies that look at and recognizes human capital administration framework in driving associations are much progressively hard to track down. Truth be told, while the experimental writing connect ing between HRM with key objectives and destinations of the associations execution has continually found than progressively powerful HRM is related with more prominent monetary execution (Becker Huselid, 1998), what is missing is more clear comprehension of how these procedures work, and in this way how associations could really deal with their staff to help give a premise of upper hands. The motivation behind this exposition is to look at how connecting of HRM with vital objectives by any association would improve business execution and create authoritative societies that cultivate advancement and adaptability. That is the reason I have thought about three central matters, ( heading, substance page) as a result of as I would like to think they are the ones which will widen the idea of this exposition. I will initially inspect the significance of HRM to methodology just as SHRM and its destinations. In the subsequent part, I will take a gander at the abilities of administrator which would assist with improving business execution and create or increment associations culture. At long last, I will show contextual investigations of various kinds of associations which has incorporated system of HRM. 1. Significance of HRM to technique Human asset the board has gotten increasingly essential to the administration when all is said in done, basically because of its job in giving upper hand, the rush to intensity, and an attention to the requests of the innovatively propelled condition of things to come. As per the discoveries of Strategist Michael Porter human asset the board is a vital aspect for getting upper hand (Michael E. Doorman, 1998). In a developing number of associations, HR are presently observed as a wellspring of upper hand. There is more prominent acknowledgment that particular capabilities are obtained through exceptionally created representative abilities, one of a kind authoritative societies, the board procedures, and frameworks. Progressively, it is perceived that upper hand can be accomplished with a top notch representatives, which empowers associations to contend based on advertise responsiveness, item and administration quality, separated items, and mechanical development as opposed to dependin g on low expenses. A case of HR an upper hand is said by John Deeres endeavors to robotize its production lines. The quest for remarkable ability and involvement with mechanical computerization, the organization built up an innovation division ( Dyer, 1983 p.257) Another model is given by ARCOs expanded significance on human asset the board issues in its official advancement program (ARCO, 1986) . Models like these calls attention to the more extensive obligations and significance of todays all the more deliberately arranged human asset the executives. Aside from its job in giving upper hand through a quality workforce, the requirements of control work costs likewise has expanded the job of human asset the board. As a result of solid strain to control work and different costs, administrators have gotten progressively mindful of the impacts of wasteful utilization of HR. Executives need look no farther than the underutilized laborers, absence of certainty, protection from change, cra fted by opposing relationship the board, inspiration issues, and prohibitive work practices to discover the reasons for low profitability. The assets distributed towards better utilization of HR can turn out to be more gainful than interest in plant and gear. In view of the potential cost efficiencies, improved human asset the executives can assume a key job in serious system and authoritative advancement abilities. Monetary unrest likewise has expanded the significance of the key job of the human asset the executives. Disturbance, globalization, innovation, fundamentally evolving socioeconomics, and contrasts in the estimations of the work power have made vulnerability in the earth nearly unprecedented. Key administration of HR and the string of human asset arranging are progressively being viewed as a methods for buffering natural vulnerability. Of course, the board of HR is progressively coordinated in the detailing of system and arranging process. As overseeing HR turns into a p rogressively significant segment of serious system of an organization, general administration has a motivator to guarantee arrangement and consistency among procedure and human asset practices and strategies. The test of adjustment first comes to finding the response to the inquiry: What sort of individuals who will important to lead the association in the coming years? (Mill operator, 1986, p12). The desire is that individuals and practices that are lined up with the future vital needs, produces unrivaled authoritative execution. While there is proof on this point, some ongoing experimental investigations have seen more significant yields as identified with the incorporated and key HR. He has been the acknowledgment of the commitments of human asset the executives to the companys accomplishment in global endeavors. This achievement is more probable when the worldwide support is compensated and global business preparing is given. Likewise more probable when determination models inco rporate administration and advancement of universal experience. In any case, before such commitments can be made, an intelligible procedure for HR must be created and connected to the general methodology association. 1.1. SHRM and its goals. The idea of vital HR the board has gotten a broadly utilized in the executives writing. In general, the objective of the key HR the executives is the powerful usage of those assets to meet the vital needs of associations and goals. In characterizing the term, specialists will in general accentuate its execution job, (Schuller, 1992, p 18-32) as indicated by the accompanying definitions: How the organization technique actualized viably making everybody from the highest point of human association out of sight doing things that make fruitful business. (In the same place, p 18). A more extensive scholastic meaning of the key HR the executives, says the accompanying: vital HR the executives is to a great extent about how to incorporate and adjust. SHRMs concern is to guarantee that: a) (HR) the executives is completely coordinated with the procedure and the vital objectives and destinations of the organization, b) HR rehearses are balanced, acknowledged and utilized by chiefs and represen tatives as a major aspect of their day by day lives work (IBId). Patrick Wright and Gary McMahan have offered a comparative meaning of vital HR the board (Wright, Patrick M. 1992 p 295). They characterized SHRM as the example of an arranged human asset tasks and exercises proposed to empower an association to accomplish its goals. Given these meanings of vital HR the executives, a general hypothetical system would now be able to be utilized to sort out information on how human asset rehearses are influenced by key contemplations. Vital HR can make commitments to the technique and key intending to set objectives of association in an alternate manners. Frameworks, for example, execution examination, staffing, preparing, and remuneration permitting administrators to actualize the associations key arrangement. The HR arranging additionally interfaces vital administration and business arranging with these frameworks. The extraordinary number of models of key HR the executives vision capacity of having a requirement job, and has been less regular to discover organizations that utilization one of a kind HR abilities as a main passage in the procedure definition. Be that as it may, more organizations are going to HR the executives during the time spent defining the procedure . As a case for it could be Arthur Andersens novel abilities of human asset preparing. The bookkeeping companys Saint Charles, Illinois, preparing focus, which takes after a grounds of school, gives it upper hand (Porter E. Michael 1998). A huge number of workers of Arthur Andersen are given garb s preparing of the companys own profoundly respected instructional work at this administration every year. Because of its offices and at home teachers, the organization can respond rapidly to the changing requests of its clients. Destinations of Human Resource Management. The targets are pre-decided vital objectives to which individual or gathering movement in an association is concentrated. The organizations are built up to accomplish certain particular goals. The targets of the any business are for the most part to acquire benefit however much as could be expected while instructive establishments are for the most part to give training or research and so on. Nonetheless, the primary and the crucial reason for any association is endurance. Associations are not simply happy with this objective. Additionally the objective of most associations is the development or benefits. Foundations to secure and oversee different assets including human for accomplishing the targets. Subsequently, human asset the board is utilized to redirect and utilize its resourc

The ACT Reading Test Understanding (and moving up) its Bell Curve
Test Structure and Score Distribution In the seven years I have been instructing the ACT and SAT, I have heard many parents express the opinion that standardized tests are not a reflection of an individual studentââ¬â¢s intellectual or academic abilities, but are rather a reflection of his or her test-taking prowess. I think there is some validity to this perspective, especially within the context of the test-prep process. After all, thatââ¬â¢s the whole point of standardized test preparation ââ¬â boosting oneââ¬â¢s score via test-specific tips and tricks, right? Well, partially. But, in my experience, the vast majority of students increase their scores due to their exposure to fundamental pedagogy: instruction of reading techniques, grammar rules, and arithmetic fundamentals. Thatââ¬â¢s due to a confluence of two factors. First, the big standardized tests are designed to reflect test-takersââ¬â¢ basic academic achievement. Second, most modern American high schools commonly assign reading and writing assignments, but rarely instruct individual students on how to improve their reading and writing at the granular level. This blog post will focus on ACT Reading test: how itââ¬â¢s structured, how that structure reveals studentsââ¬â¢ practical literacy levels, and one strategy for improving Reading test scores. Test Structure and Score Distribution So, first of all: what exactly is the task required by the ACT Reading test? The Reading test is 35 minutes long. It contains 4 passages of approximately 80-100 lines (700-1000 words), which always appear in the same order: Prose Fiction (Literary Narrative), Social Science, Humanities, Natural Science. Each passage is accompanied by 10 questions. Unlike the Math test, the questions on the Reading test are not ordered by difficulty. Unlike the old SAT, the ACT Reading test questions are not arranged in order of the passage. These two traits ââ¬â unordered difficulty and unordered question content ââ¬â have ACT-specific implications for test performance: they force the test-taker to rely less on the structure of the test, and to rely more on their own fundamental reading comprehension and organization skills. The primary obstacle to scoring well on the ACT Reading test is its time constraint ââ¬â and it is this time constraint which creates the bell curve of scores. I find it simplest to break down this test into 4 passages + their accompanying questions. The test instructions read, ââ¬Å"After reading a passage, choose the best answer to each question and fill in the corresponding oval on your answer document.â⬠[emphases mine] Many students skip over the instructions at the beginning of each test section, simply because they presume that the test format is self-evident. The format is indeed self-evident, but I think the instructions nevertheless contain important guidance which many students fail to follow. Specifically, the instructions are telling the test-taker: Read the passage before you answer the questions! Some answer choices are good, but only one is best ââ¬â so read all the choices before you decide. As soon as you have your answer, fill in your bubble sheet. Why are these bits of guidance important? Letââ¬â¢s start with the first two: Read the entire passage before you answer the questions, and read each question in its entirety, including all answer choices. Although these instructions are simple to understand, they are not easy to follow. The test-taker has only 8 minutes 45 seconds, on average, to read almost a full page of text and answer 10 related (but unordered) questions. If a student takes 30 seconds to answer each question and fill in the corresponding bubble, then he or she has less than 5 minutes to read and retain 80-100 lines of text. It can certainly be done ââ¬â but considering that the average American adultââ¬â¢s reading speed is 200-250 words per minute, this task is not a slam dunk for the average 11th grader. All but the strongest readers will find it challenging to both read all four passages and to also carefully answer all 40 questions, within the 35 minutes provided. Retention tends to be one of the most difficult aspects of this test: most students can accelerate their ââ¬Å"readingâ⬠to complete the passage within 5 minutes, but that accelerated ââ¬Å"readingâ⬠usually consists of accelerated ââ¬Å"looking at the words,â⬠which is absolutely not the same as reading and annotating for retention of ideas and details. Typically, I have found that the students who score the highest on the ACT Reading test are those who love to read, and who do so in their spare time. Because those students enjoy consuming multiple pages of text on a daily basis, they typically have no trouble finishing the passages in the time allotted, and their test-prep tutors can confidently jump directly to instructing test-specific question-answering strategies. In my opinion, the comparative performance of book-lovers and non-bookworm students on the Reading test is similar to the comparative performance of long-distance runners and non-athletes on a P.E. class mile run. Everyone can do it, but those who actually enjoy the task at hand have built up a surplus of comfort and skill ââ¬â to them, the evaluation is just a daily exercise. By contrast, almost all non-bookworms will find that they run out of time on the ACT Reading test. This is by design: The ACT Reading Test presumes that advanced literacy is correlated with reading speed, and therefore uses time constraints rather than question difficulty to build its bell curve. So, the test instructions are actually designed to prevent the students from ââ¬Å"gamingâ⬠the test to their own disadvantage. One might think that skipping the passage and jumping directly to the question saves time, but many questions are actually very difficult to answer without reading the passage first. Furthermore, many of the multiple choice answers contain attractive keywords, but are nevertheless incorrect. Finally, the instruction to fill in bubbles is intended to prevent students bubbling their answers in the wrong bubble. This is because the questions are unordered by either content or difficulty, and the ACT does not penalize for wrong answers. Taken together, this structure incentivizes students to answer ââ¬Å"easyâ⬠questions first. This is a good approach! However, if one answers the questions out of order but forgets to bubble in the same order, then the bubble sheet wonââ¬â¢t reflect the studentââ¬â¢s work. The ACT alternates its multiple choice answers ABCDE / FGHJK to avoid this outcome, but many students manage to shoot themselves in the foot anyway. Is this a fair way to test literacy? Of course, the broad correlation ââ¬Å"advanced reading skills = fast reading skillsâ⬠doesnââ¬â¢t always hold true. Furthermore, time constraints are not the only way to build an evaluation which places students on a skill-based continuum. For instance, Harvardââ¬â¢s placement tests (for a variety of subjects) consist of increasingly-difficult questions, but very little time pressure. Those tests are designed to force the student to stop when he or she has passed his or her threshold of ability. That being said, University placement exam writers can choose questions which closely reflect the curricula of their schools; the writers of the ACT serve an audience of very broad ability level and destination institutions, and therefore the ACT requires a more universally-accessible standard for passage content and question difficulty. So, for the million-plus annual ACT test takers, this exam selects passages from commonly-available media such as daily newspapers or modern nov els, writes simple questions based on fundamental understanding of the text, and then squeezes the test-takers for time in order to see who comes out ahead. This approach may not be ââ¬Å"fairâ⬠to the individual 11th grader who is used to reading a novel over the course of a couple weeks, but it is certainly a universally ââ¬Å"fairâ⬠way of ordering a huge data set of students. ââ¬Å"Squeezing the Passageâ⬠Many students have outstanding reading comprehension and retention when they are given as much time as they need to master the material. Anecdotally, I have found that most studentsââ¬â¢ raw reading scores jump significantly when I assign them practice passages without any time limits. In other words, the passages arenââ¬â¢t impossible to crack, and the questions arenââ¬â¢t impossible to interpret ââ¬â it just takes time to do, and time constraints cramp studentsââ¬â¢ deployment of their already-developed abilities. Actually, for the purposes of structuring test prep curricula, tutors can use this discrepancy between score-under-time-constraint and score-without-constraint to determine training goals. If the testââ¬â¢s time constraint is ââ¬Å"squeezingâ⬠the student, we can use a timing-based training technique to ââ¬Å"squeeze the passageâ⬠right back. Hereââ¬â¢s how to do it: Step 1: Get a watch. This is really important. Most of us know how 1 minute or 10 minutes ââ¬Å"feels,â⬠but very few of us are able to consistently ââ¬Å"feelâ⬠our way through 5 minutes of reading and then 10x 30 seconds of answering ââ¬â for a total of 4 sets. Nevertheless - the timing of the passages and their accompanying questions are always the same, so well-prepped test-takers have no excuse for being caught off-guard when 35 minutes are up. Seconds make minutes and minutes yield correct answers, so your watch has to be able to track both minutes and seconds. An analog chronograph works great because it has a timer; a digital watch is fine too. However, smartwatches are not permitted, nor are watches with noisy alarms. Step 2: Time yourself reading the passage ââ¬Å"naturally.â⬠It may feel odd to time yourself while also behaving as if you werenââ¬â¢t on the clock, but this step is necessary to establish your baseline reading speed. Start your stopwatch, and then donââ¬â¢t look at it ââ¬â place your phone face down, put your watch in your pocket, etc. Then read a single passage, as thoroughly as possible. Your goal here should be maximum retention and 100% correct answers, not speed. If it takes you 20 minutes to read the passage and get all 10 questions correct, no problem. Thatââ¬â¢s a valuable data point! It tells you that you already have the fundamental literacy necessary to get all questions correct; you can work with your tutor to improve reading efficiency. If you cannot get all the questions correct regardless of your baseline time, then thatââ¬â¢s also a useful data point: it tells you to work with your tutor on fundamental reading skills. To validate this baseline, repeat the timing exercise for a full Reading test. This will reduce the chances of getting a fluke baseline because you happen to have read a particularly difficult (or enjoyable) passage. As you measure your baseline, take general note of the following timings: How long per passage type? (Fiction, Social Science, Humanities, Natural Science) How long for single vs. double passages? How long to complete all 10 questions? What is your average time per question? Do you spend more time on certain question types? Which types take longer? Step 3: Squeeze your practice times. For the sake of illustration, letââ¬â¢s presume that your baseline time is 14 minutes per passage, about half of which you spend reading the passage and about half of which you spend answering the questions. At this pace, youââ¬â¢re able to get almost all of the questions correct. With a starting point such as this one, your tutor can ââ¬Å"squeezeâ⬠your reading habits a little bit at a time. For instance, for the following week, your tutor might assign you homework at 12 minutesââ¬â¢ timing per passage; the following week it might be 10 or 11 minutes, depending on your progress. I have found it useful to alternate between timed homework and untimed homework, as this permits me to track my studentââ¬â¢s baseline. Typically, a studentââ¬â¢s baseline improves when the student has been subjected to two forces: targeted instruction of fundamental reading techniques, and sheer volume of practice. Immersion leads to Speed Ok, so - how many pages do you have to read before youââ¬â¢re good at the ACT Reading test? Well, thatââ¬â¢s sort of like asking, ââ¬Å"how many miles do I have to run before Iââ¬â¢m good at running 1 mile?â⬠Volume of reading is relative. Some of my test prep colleagues like to say, ââ¬Å"the best way to improve oneââ¬â¢s Reading score is to read a lot of books â⬠¦ ten years ago.â⬠This wry comment may seem deliberately unhelpful, but it does reflect a hard truth: if you havenââ¬â¢t spent most days of your life since elementary school reading whatever you can get your hands on, itââ¬â¢s time to learn some fundamental reading techniques, such as reading for main ideas and mapping the passage. Fundamental reading techniques are not necessary to learn in any particular order, but they do act as force multipliers for each other. For instance, reading for the main idea not only permits efficient answering of ââ¬Å"main ideaâ⬠-type questions, but it also makes mapping the passage much easier, because one has already summarized each paragraph. In turn, a well-mapped passage permits efficient answering of detail questions, especially those questions which omit line numbering. Once you have a foundation for fundamental reading techniques, itââ¬â¢s time to drill for speed. As your speed increases and your confidence grows, youââ¬â¢ll be able to sink your teeth into test-specific techniques, such as identifying common question types and triaging by difficulty. These tips and tricks will give you an edge ââ¬â but at the end of the day, this is the ACT Reading Test. It tests Reading. Are you interested in working with an ACT tutor like Levon your upcoming test? ;

Hemingways A Clean Well-Lighted Place Essay - 1552 Words
I chose to read and write about Hemingways A Clean Well-Lighted Place. Here is a summary of what happens. Two waiters in a Spanish cafà © are waiting one night for their last customer, an old man, to leave. As they wait, they talk about the old mans recent suicide attempt. The younger waiter is impatient to leave and tells the dead old man he wishes the suicide attempt had been successful. The young waiter has a wife waiting in bed for him and is unsympathetic when the older waiter says that the old man once had a wife. The old man finally leaves when the younger waiter refuses to serve him anymore. The older waiter argues that they should have allowed their customer to stay, that being in the cafà © is not the same asâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The old man reminded me of a usual old man that has nothing to do besides sit around and get drunk. I liked how Hemingway used an age gap between characters, to show a difference in the way they acted. Its like it showed the evolutionary path that happens. First youre an impatient young man, and then you grow older and slow down to appreciate life. Finally youre old enough where life doesnt matter. You can see things like this in real life. When you are younger, say teens to early twenties, people tend to try to act superior or invincible. The world evolves around them. Just like the young waiter, in the story, young people are impatient. Especially just waiting for some old man. The young waiter doesnt want to wait; he has more important things to do. Hes tired, his wifes in bed, getting this old man to leave. His entire motivations have to do with himself. He doesnt see the old man as anything as an obstacle. He doesnt see him as a person. He wished him dead. The older waiter sees it much different. He has been around and understands that all the old man wants is a clean well-lighted place to drink his bra ndy. He knows the difference between and nice cafà © and some old bodega. The Double-Fold Oppression Of Intersectionality. The American
The Double-Fold Oppression of Intersectionality The American nation has long served as a battlefield for whites and their social norms versus African Americans and their native cultures. Although successful in previous years in acquiring basic civil rights, the early 20th century signified the African American downfall as their white foes discovered a new source of perilous power. From the early to mid-1900s, white backlash increased with the passing of legislature to segregate blacks, most prominently the Jim Crow Laws in the South. Throughout this period of black isolation, literature arose seeking to reveal African American oppression as well as to formulate an explanation for its deep roots in American society, especially works byâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The harsh treatment towards blacks is explicit through the ease at which whites declare black crimes. Sophia, a black woman in the text, is put in jail merely for sassing Miss Millie, the mayorââ¬â¢s wife, after it is requested that she become her maid. The ââ¬Å"sas singâ⬠that Sophia conducts is referencing her blunt reply of ââ¬Å"hell noâ⬠to Miss Millie (Walker 68). Sophia is brutally beaten by the mayor and six policemen, terminating in imprisonment. When Celie visits Sophia in jail, she is surprised that she is still alive: ââ¬Å"They crack her skull, they crack her ribs. They tear her nose loose on one side. They blind her in one eyeâ⬠â⬠¦ ââ¬Å"She canââ¬â¢t talk. And she just about the color of a eggplantâ⬠(Walker 86-87). The inhuman treatment of Sophia for the mere repetition of a two-word phrase and fighting back after she is slapped, clearly represents the racial tension thriving bare on the fields of Georgia. As described by literary critic Trudier Harris, ââ¬Å"Sophia must eventually suppress most of the traits that make her an interesting character, turning from vibrancy to somnambulismâ⬠(Harris 64). Furthermore, the power and influence of white ideology on society is evident through its mani pulation of the youth. One day, Sofia is instructed to watch Miss Millieââ¬â¢s children play ball. At one point during the game, the ball rolls across the yard until resting under Sofiaââ¬â¢s foot. Miss Millieââ¬â¢s son demands that Sophia hand over the ball and continues to complain after she
Margaret atwoods rape fantasies Essay Example For Students
Margaret atwoods rape fantasies Essay The plot of Rape Fantasies by Margaret Atwood is all within the mind of Estelle, who talks to the reader as she might to a new friend. Estelleââ¬â¢s personality becomes exposed to us through the narration of her fantasies and lunchtime work experiences. We are told of Estelleââ¬â¢s workplace where she is with her friends discussing their rape fantasies. Examining Estelleââ¬â¢s world through her perspective of the conversation, we find she is a game player both outwardly in playing bridge and in her relationship with herself. ââ¬Å"I like to guess a personââ¬â¢s age and then look it up to see if Iââ¬â¢m right. I let myself have an extra pack of cigarettes if I am.â⬠(31). This example of Estelleââ¬â¢s competitiveness is expressed in three other ways in the story. First, in her critical interpretation of Gretaââ¬â¢s and Chrisseyââ¬â¢s fantasies. Estelle says to her friend/reader that she is aware that Gretaââ¬â¢s fantasy rapist came from a show that they both had seen and also compares him to Tarzan in a satirical, humorous way. Her comment to Chrisseyââ¬â¢s bubble bath fantasy, ââ¬Å"Anyway you might get bubbles up your nose from all the heavy breathing,â⬠(32) appears to cause the other four wo men to become offended. Second, her thoughts and words will sometimes cut short the words of her co-workers as in this example: ââ¬Å"Sondra was miffed too, by this time she finished her celery and she wanted to tell about hers, but she hadnââ¬â¢t got in fast enough. ââ¬ËAll right, let me tell you one,ââ¬â¢ I said.â⬠(32). Third, this sort of personality domination is also seen in Estelleââ¬â¢s rape fantasies themselves. In almost every fantasy that Estelle reveals to us, she overcomes the rapist with her cool head and creative thinking; otherwise, she mentions physical attacks or force. Her first fantasy describes how she tricks the rapist into helping her squirt lemon juice in his eye. Then she tells us of the poor man who could not unzip his pants and was saved by Estelle from suicide by her kindness and sentimental understanding. In her third fantasy, Estelle helps a man with a bad cold who breaks into her apartment to rape her. She gives him Kleenex, Neo-Citra n and scotch and they watch the Late Show together. The next fantasy involves a man in her motherââ¬â¢s basement with an axe, but she tells him,I hear the same angel voices and theyââ¬â¢ve been telling me for some time that Iââ¬â¢m going to give birth to the reincarnation of St. Anne who in turn has the Virgin Mary and right after that comes Jesus Christ and the end of the world, and he wouldnââ¬â¢t want to interfere with that, would he? (35). This sends him back up the coal shoot. Then she briefly fantasizes about a number of potential rape situations where she hurts or physically overpowers her assailant, but quickly returns to less threatening possibilities. Her last fantasy is, in Estelleââ¬â¢s words, ââ¬Å"the most touchingâ⬠¦ and kind of dignifiedâ⬠(pg. 35) rape fantasy where she is dying of leukemia and is grabbed by a man in the same condition. She woos him and they move into an apartment where they die together. Estelle likes power; she is not helpless in her fantasies. Her fantasies of being a Kung-Fu expert demonstrate her wish for control over her body and her safety. Estelle can outwit, confuse, and fool her fantasy rapists; in fact she hopes she is not too vicious to them. By calmly listening to her rapists or starting a conversation with them, she attempts to assert herself. She can relate to and give advice to her rapists. They can even watch the late show together. Truly, Estelleââ¬â¢s rapists are as unrealistically obliging and polite as her coworkersââ¬â¢ rapists were romantically accommodating. These fantasy men are definite failures at raping Estelle, but they are more successful at having a relationship with a woman than the ââ¬Å"successfulâ⬠rapists. Ironically, the men even leave her feeling sorry for their unsuccessful attempts at rape. For example, Estelle mentions one rapist who gets his zipper stuck as he starts to undo himself and begins to cry, at ââ¬Å"one of the most significant moments in a girlââ¬â¢s life,
